When EgyptAir Flight 990 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean about 60 miles south of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, the recovery agencies and their contractors turned to Atlas-SSI for their expertise to help recover debris at a depth of over 200 feet.

Atlas-SSI had the critical pieces of equipment that were required for the recovery mission in their yard, however modifications were required. Due do the fact that Atlas-SSI manufactures its own buckets and grapples, the engineers and production teams were able to quickly spring into action and ship several units to the onsite recovery contractor.

The buckets and grapple that Atlas-SSI shipped had an eight cubic yard capacity and were a single line auto trip design which were ideally suited for the deep recovery effort. The buckets descend in the open position and once they reached the ocean floor, they were lifted and automatically secured any debris.
